Workplace Safety

Workplace safety training — the courses Canadian OHS requires.

283 certificate-tracked courses covering fall protection, confined space, WHMIS, lockout tagout, ground disturbance, and more. Canadian OHS compliant across all provinces.

Why it matters

Safety training is not optional — it is an OHS obligation.

Provincial OHS legislation across Canada places a legal duty on employers to ensure every worker is trained before performing hazardous work. That obligation extends to subcontractors and visitors. Failing to document training is one of the most common findings in regulatory audits and incident investigations.

Online certificate courses provide the documented evidence you need. Each course results in a time-stamped, worker-specific certificate that satisfies the training record requirement under OHS legislation and COR audit standards.

  • WHMIS — mandatory for any worker handling hazardous products
  • Fall protection — required before working at heights in every province
  • Confined space — role-specific training for entrants, attendants, and supervisors
  • Lockout/tagout — required for any worker who services or maintains equipment
  • Ground disturbance — required before any excavation work in Alberta and BC
  • Working alone — mandatory training under several provincial OHS regulations

Common mistakes

Six safety training mistakes Canadian employers make.

These come up every OHS audit and incident investigation. Most are easy to fix once an employer sees the rule clearly.

The myth

WHMIS isn't required if we don't manufacture chemicals.

The reality

WHMIS 2015 applies to anyone who uses, handles, or may be exposed to controlled products at work — including cleaners, solvents, fuel, oilfield chemicals, and many everyday workplace products.

The myth

Fall protection only matters at extreme heights.

The reality

Fall protection is required in most provinces at 3 metres / 10 feet or higher. Some industries (residential construction, scaffolding) require it at even lower heights. Check your provincial OHS code.

The myth

Confined space training is the same for everyone on the crew.

The reality

Entrants, attendants, and supervisors each have different legal duties and require role-specific training. One generic certificate does not cover all three roles for an OHS audit.

The myth

Lockout / tagout is just for electricians.

The reality

LOTO is required for any worker who services, maintains, or repairs equipment with hazardous energy — mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal, or gravitational. Maintenance, trades, and operators all need it.

The myth

We did the training last year, we're good.

The reality

Most safety certifications expire in 24 or 36 months. Renewal training is required to maintain current certification. Auditors check expiry dates on every cert in your driver and worker files.

The myth

Working alone training isn't legislated.

The reality

Most provinces require employers to assess working-alone risks and provide training. Alberta, BC, Ontario, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland have specific Working Alone regulations.
