About the course

What this course covers.

Electricity does not give a warning. A worker who does not understand electrical hazards, or who trusts equipment that should have been checked, can be injured or killed before they know anything is wrong. This course gives workers the knowledge to recognise electrical hazards and work safely around them.

The course covers an introduction to electrical safety, the general construction standard, and safe operations around electricity. It works through the equipment involved, the electrical hazards a worker faces, and the emergency care for someone involved in an electrical incident. Quiz questions throughout prepare the worker for the final written exam.

The course satisfies the classroom portion of electrical safety training and comes with a checklist an employer can use to observe a worker applying the training in the field. Companies use it to train workers who work around electricity and to give a documented training record.

Certificate and format

How the course runs

Your certificate

A mark of 80 percent earns the certificate, and the course can be taken up to three times to reach the pass mark. On completion the worker downloads and prints a certificate of completion valid for two years from the completion date, along with a checklist an employer can use to observe the training applied in the field.

  • Fully online and self-paced - about 120 minutes of content
  • Satisfies the classroom portion of electrical safety training
  • Includes a field observation checklist for the employer
  • Mobile-friendly - start on a laptop, finish on a phone
  • Pass mark is 80 percent, with up to three attempts

Why it matters for compliance

Occupational health and safety legislation requires that workers exposed to electrical hazards are trained to recognise and control them. This course is the classroom portion of electrical safety training and provides the documented record a COR auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.
