New Alberta carriers
Get ready for your new carrier compliance review.
Every new commercial carrier in Alberta has a new carrier compliance review, due before the first anniversary of its Safety Fitness Certificate. On-Track Safety Solutions, in Red Deer, Alberta, builds the National Safety Code (NSC) program and the records a reviewer looks for, so your first year ends with a review you are ready for.
Complete NSC program from $495 plus GST.
What the review is.
Alberta says the review is designed to make sure a new commercial carrier understands what it takes to comply with the National Safety Code. A certified third party auditor or certified reviewer examines your records and reports to the ministry on how well you have shown compliance with NSC safety standards. It can be done at your place of business or remotely.
It is not the same as a facility audit, the more detailed in-person audit under NSC Standard 15 that can lead to a change of safety rating. But both look at the same thing: your records.

The documents Alberta asks for when it audits a carrier:
- Insurance
- Your written safety program
- Driver files
- Hours-of-service records
- Trip inspection reports
- Vehicle maintenance files
How our NSC program gets you ready.
The review checks what you have done in your first year, so the sooner the program is in place the more records you will have to show. The complete NSC program includes:
- A custom NSC safety manual written for your fleet and your operation
- Driver file templates and the forms your drivers and dispatch fill out
- Hours-of-service and trip inspection records set up to be kept the way the standards expect
- An accident and incident protocol
- Driver training on the four required NSC courses through our online training portal
Questions about the new carrier compliance review
- When is a new carrier compliance review due in Alberta?
- Alberta's facility audits and new carrier compliance reviews page says the review is due before the first anniversary of the carrier's Safety Fitness Certificate.
- Who carries out the review?
- A certified third party auditor or certified reviewer examines the carrier's records and reports to the ministry on demonstrated compliance with National Safety Code (NSC) standards. It can be done in person or remotely; for a remote review the reviewer tells you how to send your documents.
- What does the review look at?
- Your records, measured against NSC safety standards. Alberta's page does not publish a separate checklist for the review, but for a facility audit it asks for documents such as insurance, safety programs, driver files, hours-of-service records, trip inspections and vehicle files. Having those in order is the best preparation.
- How much does On-Track charge to prepare a new carrier?
