Commercial Weights and Dimensions covers legal load limits and axle weight distribution. Hours of Service covers the provincial rules for on-duty, driving, and rest cycles. Daily Trip Inspection covers the pre-trip and post-trip inspection cycle for commercial vehicles. All four are available through our online training portal and can be completed by drivers at their own pace from any device.

How long does it take to build an NSC program from scratch?

Most NSC program builds from scratch complete in two to four weeks, depending on how much of the safety program is already in place and how quickly the operator can provide the fleet and driver information needed to customise the documents. Operators with an existing but outdated program typically see a faster turnaround because some of the base documentation is already written.

Can drivers complete the training while they are already working?

Yes. The four required courses are delivered through our online training portal and can be completed on any device with an internet connection. Drivers can work through a course between shifts, at a yard computer, or on a phone. There is no classroom requirement and no set schedule. Operators with multiple drivers can roll out all four courses simultaneously and track completion through the portal.

Does the training meet provincial requirements across Western Canada?

The four required courses are built to the federal NSC standards and are available with provincial variants where provincial regulations differ from the federal baseline. The Hours of Service course has an Alberta-specific version and a generic version for British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. We confirm which version is appropriate for each operating province before training begins.

What happens if we get audited by a provincial carrier safety authority?

An NSC audit by a provincial carrier safety authority (Commercial Vehicle Enforcement in Alberta, MOTI in British Columbia, SGI in Saskatchewan, or MTO in Manitoba) will look for documented evidence of the same seven program areas your NSC program covers. An On-Track-built program is formatted to produce exactly that evidence on request. If an audit recommendation or deficiency is issued, we can review the finding and advise on the corrective action required.

Do we need to update the program every year?

NSC programs should be reviewed and updated annually, or whenever there is a change in the operation, the fleet size, the provinces of operation, or the applicable regulations. Hours-of-service rules and cargo securement standards see periodic updates at the federal and provincial level. Annual reviews catch regulatory changes before an audit or roadside enforcement check does.
