Alberta OHS and COR at a glance
Alberta's OHS legislation is administered by Alberta Labour, Immigration and Training. The Certificate of Recognition (COR) program is managed by Alberta's certifying partners — primarily ACSA, Energy Safety Canada (ESC), and AASP — under the Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) framework with Alberta WCB.
COR-certified Alberta employers receive a WCB PIR rebate of up to 20% of annual premiums. SECOR-certified employers (10 or fewer workers) receive up to 15%. For a construction company paying $80,000 in annual WCB premiums, the rebate can reach $16,000 per year — often exceeding the combined cost of the audit and safety program.
Alberta prime contractors in oil and gas, pipeline, industrial, and construction sectors routinely require COR certification as a prequalification condition. ISNetworld, ComplyWorks, Avetta, and CanQual are the primary platforms through which Alberta contractors manage their pre-qualification accounts.
On-Track Safety is based in Red Deer, Alberta and has been serving Alberta operators since 2008. Our auditors work under ACSA and ESC protocols. We provide contractor management services for all four major platforms.
Questions about safety consulting in Alberta
- Does On-Track Safety audit under ACSA, ESC, and AASP in Alberta?
- We are certified for ACSA and Energy Safety Canada (ESC) audits in Alberta. AASP (Alberta Association for Safety Partnerships) certification is held by our partner auditors. We coordinate with the certifying partner that best matches your industry and audit cycle.
- Does On-Track Safety work across all of Alberta?
- Yes. We work throughout Alberta — from the Peace Country in the north to Lethbridge and Medicine Hat in the south, and from Calgary and Edmonton to the rural oilfield and agricultural communities. Our auditors travel to client sites.
- Can On-Track Safety help us get the WCB PIR rebate?
- Yes. COR and SECOR certification are the qualifying credentials for Alberta's Partnerships in Injury Reduction (PIR) rebate — up to 20% of WCB premiums for COR, up to 15% for SECOR. We handle the audit that qualifies your company. The rebate is paid by WCB based on your certification status at year-end.
- How long does Alberta COR certification take?
- Most Alberta companies take 12 to 18 months from program build to active certificate. Companies with existing safety documentation can move faster. The limiting factor is almost always implementation time — auditors look at records, not just the manual.
