How does a gap assessment work?

The same five steps for every review. The desk review happens before we arrive, so field time goes to checking records against the work.

  1. Scoping questions

    A short questionnaire of facts: sites, headcount, fleet size, who your customer is and what they asked for. We never ask "do you comply". That is our job to find out.

  2. Secure upload link

    You get a private link with a named list of the documents we need, so nobody guesses what to send. Upload from any device.

  3. Desk review before we arrive

    We read every document before the site visit, so field time is spent checking your records against the work, not reading binders.

  4. Field day

    We walk the site, talk with workers and supervisors, and check what the records say against what is actually happening.

  5. Scored report and debrief

    A scored report with a prioritized gap list, the reference for each gap, and a practical fix. We walk you through it and answer questions.

What is a gap assessment?

A gap assessment measures your safety program against a specific standard, such as a provincial NSC audit, your customer's contract or the COR audit tool, and lists every place you fall short with the fix for each. It is done before the real audit or review, so there is time to close the gaps.

How is a gap assessment different from an audit?

An audit decides something: a certificate, a rating or a contract standing. A gap assessment is for you. It uses the same standard and the same methods, but nothing is submitted, so you can fix what it finds first.

Which gap assessment do I need?

Start with who is asking. A provincial transport audit points to an NSC mock audit, a customer's contract to an independent safety audit, a COR certificate to a COR gap audit, and several provinces to a multi-province review. If you are not sure, tell us what you were asked for and a safety expert will point you to the right one.

How much does a gap assessment cost?

Each one is quoted per site. The price depends on the number of sites, the sample size (drivers, vehicles or workers), whether a field day is needed, and travel. Most quotes go out the same business day.

Where do you work?

We are based in Red Deer, Alberta and work across Western Canada. NSC mock audits cover Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan. Multi-province reviews cover every province your company works in.

Will you tell anyone else what you find?

No. The report goes to whoever engages us. When an owner engages us to audit a contractor, findings are reviewed with the contractor before the report is final.
