Employer training grants

Training grants for Alberta and BC employers.

Two government programs pay most of the cost of training your workers: the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant and the B.C. Employer Training Grant. On-Track Safety Solutions, a safety consulting and online training company in Red Deer, Alberta, sets out what each program's official page says, so you can plan your crew's safety training before you apply.

Your company may be eligible; check with the program. Only each program decides who qualifies and which training it funds. Neither official page says whether online or self-paced courses qualify, so confirm that with the program before you enrol.

What each program says it covers.

Planning your crew's safety training around a grant.

  1. 1

Pick the courses. Choose from On-Track's online safety courses, or find out which course each worker needs.

  2. 2

Get a written quote. Ask our safety experts for a quote listing the courses, number of workers and costs, to use in your application.

  3. 3

Check with the program, then apply. Confirm the training qualifies, then apply before training starts, as both programs ask.

  4. 4

Train and track in one place. A free corporate training account enrols the whole crew, keeps every certificate on file and tracks expiry dates.

Questions about training grants

Do online safety courses qualify for the Canada-Alberta Productivity Grant?
The official program page does not say. It says training must be instructional and structured, include interaction with a qualified instructor, and take place in Alberta except in exceptional circumstances. Self-paced online courses may or may not meet those rules, so check with the program before you enrol and before you count on the grant.
Do online safety courses qualify for the B.C. Employer Training Grant?
The official WorkBC page does not say whether online or self-paced training is eligible. It points employers to the program's Eligibility Criteria document and to the program office for details. Check with the program before you enrol.
Can On-Track Safety Solutions apply for the grant for us?
No. Both programs are applied for by the employer. The B.C. program says plainly that third parties cannot apply on an employer's behalf. What we can do is give you a written quote listing the courses, number of workers and costs, so you have the training details your application asks for.
Does On-Track guarantee my company is eligible?
No. Only the program decides eligibility. Your company may be eligible; check with the program, and apply before training starts.
