What are ISNetworld Training Documents?
ISNetworld Training Documents are the training records ISN asks you to upload, one for each training topic your hiring clients require. They sit in RAVS, ISN's Review and Verification Services, beside your written programs. ISN names each requirement "CAN - " and the topic, such as CAN - Confined Space or CAN - Fall Protection, and shows its status on your Training Documents page: Upload Document when nothing is on file, or Deficiency Found when ISN has reviewed what you sent and it falls short.
These are not the same as your written safety programs. A fall protection program says what your company will do; an ISN training document proves your workers were trained on it. A contractor can have every written program approved and still sit at Deficiency Found on a dozen training topics, because the RAVS training requirements are checked against a different set of rules.
Most open Training Documents items come down to two things: there is no record at all for the topic, or the record on file is missing something ISN checks for. Both are fixed the same way, with training your crew actually takes and a record built to ISN's rules from the start.
ISN's rules
What does ISNetworld accept as a training document?
Training rosters, safety meeting minutes, toolbox talk records and certificates all count, if each one shows these five elements.
- 1
Company name or identifier
Your company's name on the document. ISN does not need it on an individual worker's certificate.
- 2
A training date within the last 3 years
The day the training was given. Older than 3 years and the document no longer counts.
- 3
The trained worker's name and/or signature
Every worker the record covers, by name, signed where they can.
- 4
The instructor's name and/or signature
Whoever gave the training. Not needed on a computer-based training roster, where the course itself is the instructor.
- 5
A course name that matches the topic
The record has to say what was taught, in words that match the CAN topic it is uploaded against.
And on most topics
"Awareness level training is not acceptable."
Awareness level means knowing a hazard exists. ISN wants proof the worker knows how your company controls it. The line sits on topics such as Confined Space, Fall Protection, Lockout Tagout, Powered Mobile Equipment, Respiratory Protection, WHMIS, PPE, Noise and Ladders, and with 20 or more CAN topics on a typical list, each checked for five things, it is where most records fail. That is why every one of our topics has a check, and high-hazard topics a practical.
Check a document
Why do training documents get marked Deficiency Found?
Pick a document and watch it run through ISN's checks for CAN - Fall Protection. The sign-in sheet most crews already have misses four. The online awareness certificate gets five of six and still fails.
A typical toolbox talk sign-in sheet
- FailCompany name or identifierA blank store-bought form with no company name on it.
- PassTraining date within the last 3 yearsDated this spring.
- PassWorker name and/or signatureSix crew members signed.
- FailInstructor name and/or signatureNobody is named as giving the talk.
- FailCourse name matches the topicThe topic line says "Tailgate meeting", not Fall Protection.
- FailMore than awareness levelA 10-minute talk with no check of what anyone learned reads as awareness level.

Our answer, per topic
What comes with each CAN training topic?
A module, a pre-filled sign-off sheet, a written check and a certificate, plus a practical on high-hazard topics. Training your crew can take on their own or together, and the paperwork that proves it.

A narrated online module
10 to 15 minutes per topic, on any phone or computer. Real photos, short exercises and a 10-question check at the end.

Safety meeting mode
The same module, played by a supervisor on a TV or laptop at a safety meeting, so the whole crew takes it together.

A sign-off sheet and written check
A pre-filled sign-off sheet with all five ISN elements, and a written check in two versions with an answer key and a score column.

A practical sign-off
On high-hazard topics, a supervisor watches each worker do the key steps and signs. That is what lifts a record past awareness level.
Also in every topic
- An online check that gives each worker a certificate with their name, the topic and the date
- A "Your company's rules" card in every module, taken from your own written program
- Provincial law for Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC, written for the province your crew works in
- Word and PDF copies of every sheet, ready to print
See the real thing
Try a sample module, the way your crew would.
Two finished topics for a sample company, Silica and Powered Mobile Equipment. Play the narrated scenes, try the exercises, write the 10-question check and see the certificate. It works on a phone or a computer, with sound or in read mode.
The sample is for a fictional company. Yours carries your name, your rules and your province.
How your crew does it
Three ways a crew completes a topic
Pick whatever suits the job. Every way ends in a record ISN can check.
a. Together
At a safety meeting
A supervisor plays the module on a TV or laptop and the crew watches together. Everyone signs the sheet, then each worker writes the paper check (version A or B, answer key included) or scans the code on the sheet and takes the 10 questions on their phone.

b. On their own
Online, on any phone or computer
Each worker takes the module on their own time. It saves their place, so they can stop and pick up where they left off. Pass the check and they get a certificate with their name, the exact ISN course name and a certificate ID.

c. High-hazard topics
Plus a practical at the equipment
On topics like Powered Mobile Equipment and Silica, a supervisor watches each worker do the key steps and marks them done, missed or coached. Critical steps must be done without prompting. This is what lifts the record past awareness level.

Inside a module
What does the training look like?
About 10 to 15 minutes per topic. Built so a worker learns how your company controls the hazard, not only that the hazard exists.

Narrated scenes
Real photos with the key points on screen as they are spoken. No sound on site? Read mode shows the captions instead.

Diagrams that move
The hard ideas drawn out, such as how deep silica dust gets into the lungs.

Exercises built on real decisions
Sort what the walk-around turns up, or find the problems in a photo. Short, and about the job, not trivia.

A 10-question check
Answers can be changed until it is submitted. Miss one and they retry only the questions they missed. The pass mark is 8 of 10.

A result and a certificate
The certificate carries the worker's name, the exact ISN course name, a certificate ID and a code anyone can scan to check it.

Your own module library
Every topic you buy, under your company's name, ready to start or to run at a safety meeting.
The paperwork
The record ISN checks, filled in before your meeting
Every topic comes with a printable training record. Your supervisor prints it, the crew signs it, and nothing else needs preparing.

The sign-off sheet
Company name, the exact ISN course name, what the session covered, each worker's printed name and signature, A or B and score columns, and the trainer's declaration.

The written check
Ten questions on your company's rules and the law, in two versions so neighbours cannot copy.

The answer key
Both versions side by side with why each answer is right, for the supervisor only.

The practical sign-off
The steps a supervisor watches at the equipment, critical steps marked, done, missed or coached.
How it works
How it works, start to finish
Step 1
Pay, then send your list and programs
Pick the package or your open CAN topics and pay by card. One questionnaire collects your ISN training topic list, your written programs and who will run the training.
Step 2
We set up your modules
Within 5 business days of your answers: your company name on every module and sheet, and your program's rules on the "Your company's rules" card.
Step 3
Run them your way
At a safety meeting on a TV, or online on each worker's phone. They write the check, a supervisor signs the practical, and everyone signs the sheet.
Step 4
Send us the signed sheet
A scan is fine. For contractor management clients we upload it as that CAN topic's training document and remind you before the 3-year date. Everyone else gets upload steps.
The training has to happen. A sign-off sheet is a record of training your crew actually took, so we supply the training and the paperwork, and your crew does the rest. We never sign or fill in a record on your behalf.
Built on your program and the law
Your rules, your province, nothing invented
Every rule a module teaches traces back to one of two places: your province's regulation, or your own written program. Each module has a card called Your company's rules, and where your program says something, the training says it the same way. Where your program is silent, the module teaches the law and nothing more.
That matters because ISN is not asking whether a worker has heard of a hazard. That is awareness level. ISN wants proof the worker knows how your company controls it, which is why every topic has a check and high-hazard topics have a practical.
What we need from you
- Your ISN training topic list, or a screenshot of your Training Documents page
- Your written safety programs or manual
- Who will run the training and sign as instructor
- Your logo, if you want it on the sheets
All of it goes in one questionnaire after you pay.
What we handle
- Each module set up with your company name and your program's rules
- Your province's law, with every rule traced to the regulation or your own program
- The sign-off sheet, both written checks, the answer key and the practical
- The online check and certificates
- For contractor management clients: the upload to ISNetworld, and a reminder before the 3-year date
For your workers
About 10 to 15 minutes a topic on any phone. It picks up where they left off, with sound or in read mode, and they keep a certificate.
For your supervisors
Nothing to prepare beyond printing the sheet. The module does the teaching, and the answer key is included for marking.

First Aid and H2S are different: ISN wants a valid certificate from a third-party training provider, with the authorizing agency. We do not provide those courses, and they are not part of the package. Contractor management clients can send us a current certificate to upload.
Saskatchewan, Alberta and BC
Is the training written for my province?
Yes. Each topic teaches the law where your crew works, alongside your own company rules, so the record stands up to ISN and to an officer on site.
Saskatchewan
Built on The Saskatchewan Employment Act and The Occupational Health and Safety Regulations, 2020, which set out what training an employer must give and when a worker has to show they can do the work.
Alberta
Built on the Alberta OHS Act, Regulation and Code, including the Code's training requirements for topics such as fall protection, confined space, WHMIS and respiratory protection.
British Columbia
Built on the Workers Compensation Act and the BC Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, including its worker instruction and training requirements on each topic.

Who uploads the records to ISNetworld?
If we manage your ISNetworld account, we do. Your crew takes the training and signs, you send us the signed sheets or the online certificates, and we upload one document per CAN topic to your Training Documents page. If ISN comes back with a note, we answer it.
If you run your own account, you upload them. Each sheet is named for its topic, and you get short steps for the Training Documents page. Want us to take ISNetworld off your plate altogether? See ISNetworld account management.
Looking for the written program answers instead of training records? Those are separate RAVS documents, sold in our store as ISNetworld RAVS written programs.
