About the course
What this course covers.
Every year, thousands of workers suffer the effects of heat - and not only the ones working under a summer sun. Indoor work near equipment and machinery that gives off heat carries the same risk. Heat illness moves from mild discomfort to a medical emergency faster than workers expect, and heat stroke kills. This course trains workers to see it coming.
The course covers the situations that lead to heat-related illness, the progression from heat stress to heat exhaustion to heat stroke, and how the body reacts to heat. It works through recognising the symptoms of heat stress, the steps a worker can take to prevent heat-related illness, and the elementary first aid that can be given to a worker affected by it.
Companies use the course to train outdoor and indoor crews ahead of hot conditions and to give a documented training record an auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.

Safety Coordinator
Short and clear. It covers our indoor crews near the equipment too, which a lot of heat courses forget.

Certificate and format
How the course runs
Your certificate
Testing runs throughout the course and a mark of 80 percent earns the certificate; the course can be repeated twice if the pass mark is not met on the first attempt. On completion the worker downloads and prints a certificate of completion valid for three years from the completion date.
- Fully online and self-paced - about 30 minutes of content
- Audio, full-motion video, text, and graphics in topic-based lessons
- Mobile-friendly - start on a laptop, finish on a phone
- Instant access as soon as the course is purchased
- Pass mark is 80 percent, with up to three attempts
Why it matters for compliance
Occupational health and safety legislation requires that workplace hazards are assessed and controlled, and heat is a recognised hazard for both outdoor and indoor work. This course gives workers heat illness training and the documented record a COR auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.
