What this course covers.
Alberta's Occupational Health and Safety Act requires every HSC member and HSR to complete a minimum standard of training before they can act in the role. This course delivers that minimum: what the role is responsible for, what the employer must provide, and how a committee or representative actually operates.
The course works through the OHS obligations of every work site party, the rights of workers, the specific duties an HSC or HSR holds - including participating in the employer's hazard assessment and reviewing its work site inspection documentation - and the employer's own obligations to establish and support the committee or representative.
It closes with the practical side of the role: committee meeting terminology, what makes a meeting effective, and the traits of an effective delegate, backed by a Participant Guide with real meeting agenda, minutes, and terms-of-reference templates.

A mark of 80 percent is required on the final exam, with three attempts available. On completion, an AMHSA Certificate of Completion is available to download and print, recommended to be retaken every three years.
