Aerial Work Platform Training - Boom and Scissor Lift

Aerial Work Platform Training - Boom and Scissor Lift is an online course for new and experienced operators of boom lifts and scissor lifts. It covers levels of workplace responsibility, aerial work platform basics, stability principles, safe operating procedures and fall protection, finishing with a 35-question final exam.

Duration

2h 30m

On completion

Certificate, valid 36 month(s)

Coverage

You set up a training profile before you pay. It asks for more than a normal checkout does - your employer, your role, an emergency contact - because this is a training record, not a shopping cart. It is the file an auditor asks to see, and it is why you can pull your certificate up years from now instead of hunting for a PDF in your email. Give yourself five minutes and do it once.

About the course

What this course covers.

Boom lifts and scissor lifts are on almost every construction and industrial site, and the incidents on them repeat: a machine tips because the ground or the load was wrong, an operator is thrown or falls from the platform, or the platform is driven into an overhead hazard. Every one of those is a failure of knowledge as much as skill. This course builds the knowledge an operator needs before and alongside hands-on familiarisation.

It begins with levels of workplace responsibility, so the operator understands what the employer, supervisor and operator each owe to the job, then moves to aerial work platform basics: the types of platform and the parts that matter to safe operation. The stability principles module explains why platforms tip and how ground conditions, slope, load and wind push a machine toward its limits. Safe operating procedures covers how to inspect, set up and run the platform day to day, and the final module covers fall protection on aerial work platforms.

The course is delivered as short, interactive micro-learning segments with voice-over and animation, which suits operators who do not sit at a desk. The final exam is 35 multiple-choice questions, with three attempts to reach 80 percent. Like all online equipment training, it covers theory; operators still need hands-on familiarisation with the specific machine and the employer's practical evaluation before running it on their own.

Why it matters for compliance

In Canada, mobile elevating work platforms are covered by the CSA B354 series of standards, which include requirements for safe use and for operator training, and provincial OHS rules require operators to be trained and competent on the equipment they use. This course provides the theory portion; familiarisation with the specific machine and a practical evaluation remain the employer's responsibility.

Common questions

Questions buyers ask

Does this course cover both boom lifts and scissor lifts?

Yes. It covers aerial work platform basics for both, with stability principles and safe operating procedures that apply across boom and scissor lifts.

Is the online course enough to operate a lift on site?

It covers the theory. Before operating independently, an operator also needs hands-on familiarisation with the specific machine and the employer's practical evaluation.

How much does the course cost?

The course is 99.99 CAD per seat. Ask our safety experts for 10 percent off your first course, or a free On-Track Safety corporate account for 20 percent off every course for the first three months.

What is the exam like?

A final exam of 35 multiple-choice questions. You need 80 percent to pass and have three attempts.

How long is the certificate valid?

Three years from the issue date.

Which aerial lift course should I choose?

On-Track Safety carries several. This one is a full theory course with a fall protection module. Aerial Work Platform (AWP) Certification and Aerial Platform - Boom and Scissor are close alternatives, and Mobile Elevated Work Platforms is a shorter awareness option for people who work around lifts.

Why is stability a whole module?

Tip-overs are among the most serious aerial platform incidents. The stability module explains how ground conditions, slope, load and wind work against the machine, so the operator recognises a dangerous set-up before raising the platform.

Does the course cover fall protection on the platform?

Yes. The final module covers fall protection for workers on aerial work platforms. Follow the manufacturer's instructions and your employer's procedures for the specific machine.
