About the course
What this course covers.
Falls are among the top three causes of workplace injury in Alberta. Fall protection, properly implemented, prevents those falls or catches the worker - but it depends on the worker understanding the systems, the legislation, and the equipment. This course gives an Alberta worker that understanding.
The course covers fall hazards and the use and purpose of the various fall protection systems, and the importance of fall protection from an Alberta legislative standpoint. It works through choosing an anchor, the purpose and function of full-body harnesses and their five classes, the requirements for connecting hardware, the uses of connecting devices, and shock absorbers - and the hazards of each component if it is used incorrectly. It covers maximum arrest force, calculating free fall distance and clearance, inspection and care, donning a full-body harness, and the basics of fall protection plans, rescue planning, and preventing suspension trauma.
The course is eligible for two Gold Seal Certification credits from the Canadian Construction Association. Companies use it to train Alberta workers who work at height and to give a documented training record an auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.

Certificate and format
How the course runs
Your certificate
A mark of 70 percent on each chapter earns the certificate, and each chapter can be repeated as needed to reach the pass mark. The course is eligible for two Gold Seal Certification credits from the Canadian Construction Association. On completion the worker downloads and prints a certificate of completion valid for three years from the completion date; some jurisdictions require an additional practical evaluation on equipment.
- Fully online and self-paced - about 3 hours of content
- Written to Alberta fall protection legislation
- Eligible for two Gold Seal Certification credits from the CCA
- Mobile-friendly - start on a laptop, finish on a phone
- Pass mark is 70 percent per chapter
Why it matters for compliance
Alberta OHS legislation sets specific requirements for fall protection, including equipment, training, and a rescue plan. This course is written to those requirements and provides the documented training record a COR auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for; a practical evaluation on equipment may also be required.
