About the course
What this course covers.
This course is for the people on the floor, on site and in the office, not the managers who run the investigation. It explains in plain terms what counts as sexual harassment, why intent does not change how behaviour lands, and what to do when you experience or see it.
It is deliberately short and focused on one subject. If you need a longer package that also covers workplace violence, bullying and supervisor responsibilities, look at Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention (for supervisors and managers) or Violence and Harassment in the Workplace (the full complaint and investigation process).
Employers use it to give every worker a common baseline, to support the training part of their violence and harassment prevention plan, and to keep a certificate on file for each person.

Why it matters for compliance
In Alberta, the Occupational Health and Safety Act defines harassment to include a sexual solicitation or advance, and one incident can be enough. Employers must ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, that workers are not harassed and do not harass others. Since March 31, 2025, section 390 of the OHS Code requires every employer to have a violence and harassment prevention plan that covers reporting, investigation and confidentiality, and workers have a right to training on recognizing harassment. Workers are also protected from disciplinary action for acting in line with the Act. Other provinces and federally regulated workplaces have their own rules.
Common questions

How long is the sexual harassment course and what is the pass mark?
- The Preventing Sexual Harassment for Employees course takes about 30 minutes online. You need 80% on the final test, and you get three attempts.
Is sexual harassment training required in Alberta?
- Alberta employers must have a violence and harassment prevention plan under section 390 of the OHS Code, and workers have a right to training on recognizing harassment. A course like Preventing Sexual Harassment for Employees is one practical way to deliver and document that training.
What's the difference between this course and Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention?

- Yes. Preventing Sexual Harassment for Employees covers documenting an incident, reporting it through your employer's process and what to expect afterwards, as well as what to do if you see someone else being harassed.
Do I get a certificate for the sexual harassment course?
- Yes. When you pass Preventing Sexual Harassment for Employees you can download a certificate of completion right away, and you keep a printable student manual.
