About the course

What this course covers.

A confined space kills quietly. The air looks no different, but a space that is not designed for someone to work in can hold an atmosphere that drops a worker before they know anything is wrong - and then takes the would-be rescuer too. This course trains an Alberta worker to recognise a confined space and to never enter one without the controls in place.

The course covers the basics of confined spaces and the responsibilities of everyone involved, how to recognise a confined space and its existing and potential hazards, and how to eliminate and control those hazards. It works through the classification of confined spaces, entry authorization, confined space entry planning, the personal protective equipment the work calls for, and the emergency and rescue procedures that have to be ready before anyone goes in.

The course is written to Alberta OHS requirements. Companies use it to train Alberta workers who enter or attend confined spaces, and to give a documented training record an auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.
