About the course
What this course covers.
Earth-moving equipment shifts ground for a living, and the same power that moves the ground will roll the machine, strike a worker, or undercut a slope if the operator does not understand inspections, stability, and the site. This course gives a broad grounding for operators across the range of earth-moving machines.
The course covers the pre-shift inspection - the interior and exterior checks - machine stability, knowing the machine, mounting and dismounting, PPE, and the steering, controls, and attachments. It then works through knowing the worksite: assessing the site, ground conditions, pedestrians, and travelling. It finishes on the earth-moving operations themselves - bucket operations, dumping, trenching, ripping, and compacting.
The course fulfils the classroom requirement for operator safety training and comes with a proficiency checklist an employer uses for a practical evaluation. Companies use it to train earth-moving equipment operators and to give a documented training record.

What learners say
Trusted by Canadian crews
Good broad grounding before an operator specialises. The site-assessment and ground-conditions sections are the parts new hands need most.
Cory D.
Earthworks Supervisor
Covers the inspection routine and the operations cleanly. The proficiency checklist made the field sign-off simple.
Marie L.
Safety Coordinator
Solid course. The attachments and bucket-operations content was a fair refresher even with years in the seat.
Brett H.

Certificate and format
How the course runs
Your certificate
A mark of 80 percent earns the certificate. The course fulfils the classroom requirement for operator safety training and includes a proficiency checklist an employer uses for a practical evaluation. On completion the operator downloads and prints a certificate of completion valid for three years from the completion date.
- Fully online and self-paced - about 120 to 150 minutes of content
- Written to Canadian standards including the CSA B352 and M12117 series
- Includes a proficiency checklist for an employer practical evaluation
- Mobile-friendly - start on a laptop, finish on a phone
- Pass mark is 80 percent
Why it matters for compliance
Occupational health and safety legislation requires that earth-moving equipment operators are trained and competent before they run a machine. This course is the classroom portion of operator training and provides the documented record a COR auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for; a practical evaluation on the machine completes the certification.
