About the course
What this course covers.
Batteries power forklifts, narrow-aisle trucks, electric buses, and other equipment, and used properly they are safe and reliable. Used carelessly, they deliver an electrical shock, a corrosive acid burn, or an injury from handling a heavy battery. This course trains a worker to manage batteries and chargers without finding those hazards.
The course covers battery basics and charger basics, preparing for charging, and recharging and watering a battery. It works through battery acid and its hazards, the lockout/tagout that protects a worker during service, and the vehicle inspection. By the end a worker understands how a battery and charger work, safe battery handling, recharging, watering and cleaning, personal safe practices, acid spill cleanup, and simple exterior repair.
Companies use the course to train workers who charge and handle industrial batteries and to give a documented training record an auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.

Certificate and format
How the course runs
Your certificate
A mark of 80 percent earns the certificate, and the course can be taken up to three times to reach the pass mark. On completion the worker downloads and prints a certificate of completion. A printable student manual is available as a reference.
- Fully online and self-paced - about 20 minutes of content
- Includes a printable student manual
- Mobile-friendly - start on a laptop, finish on a phone

Why it matters for compliance
Occupational health and safety legislation requires that workers are trained for the hazards of their work, and an industrial battery carries electrical, chemical, and handling hazards. This course provides that training and the documented record a COR auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.
