Online driver and equipment training

Aggregate Hauling

Aggregate Hauling is a 90-minute online theory course for operators of aggregate hauling equipment. It covers aggregate types, hauler configurations, inspection and legal requirements, hazards of hauling and heavy machinery, fatigue and distraction, trip inspections, journey management plans, hydraulic and air systems, and loading, hauling and unloading aggregate and asphalt.

Duration

You set up a training profile before you pay. It asks for more than a normal checkout does - your employer, your role, an emergency contact - because this is a training record, not a shopping cart. It is the file an auditor asks to see, and it is why you can pull your certificate up years from now instead of hunting for a PDF in your email. Give yourself five minutes and do it once.

About the course

What this course covers.

Hauling gravel, sand, rock and asphalt combines the hazards of commercial driving with the hazards of heavy equipment. Operators back into pits and paving sites, raise loaded boxes on uneven ground, work around loaders and pavers, and spend long days on the road. This course is built for that combination, introducing the equipment and the safe practices for operating it and for loading and unloading what it carries.

It begins with aggregate itself, the definitions and types of material hauled, and the hauler configurations used to carry it. It then covers the vehicle inspection station requirements and legislation a driver should be aware of, the hazards common to hauling aggregate and operating heavy machinery, and strategies for combating fatigue, stress, impairment and distracted driving. Trip inspections and the contents of a journey management plan round out the driving side.

The equipment side covers hydraulic and air systems, which lift the box and stop the truck, followed by loading and unloading aggregate and the specific process of loading, hauling and unloading asphalt. The course is theory only; on completion the learner is emailed a competency evaluation form the employer can use to evaluate practical skills. The pass mark is 100 percent, with three attempts.

Certificate and format

How the course runs

Your certificate

Pass at 100 percent to download a certificate of completion, valid for three years from the completion date according to the supplier. Three attempts are allowed. A competency evaluation form is emailed for the employer's practical evaluation.

  • Fully online and self-paced, about 90 minutes
  • Theory only, with an employer competency evaluation form
  • 100 percent pass mark, three attempts
  • Instant access once the seat is purchased
  • Certificate available as soon as the course is passed

Why it matters for compliance

Aggregate haulers are commercial vehicles subject to provincial commercial vehicle and National Safety Code requirements, including trip inspections, and operators of heavy equipment must be trained and competent under provincial OHS rules. This course provides theory; the practical evaluation and site-specific training remain the employer's responsibility.

Common questions

Questions buyers ask

Does this course qualify me to drive an aggregate hauler?

No. It is theory training. You still need the right licence class, and your employer evaluates your practical skills using the competency form provided after the course.

Why is the pass mark 100 percent?

The supplier sets a 100 percent pass mark for this course, with three attempts allowed, so every learner finishes having answered every question correctly.

How much does the course cost?

The course is 49.99 CAD per seat. Ask our safety experts for 10 percent off your first course, or a free On-Track Safety corporate account for 20 percent off every course for the first three months.

Does it cover asphalt?

Yes. It covers loading, hauling and unloading asphalt as well as aggregate.

How long is the certificate valid?

The supplier states three years from the completion date.

Does it include trip inspections?

Yes, along with hydraulic and air systems and the contents of a journey management plan. Drivers may also want a full trip inspection course.

Why does an aggregate course cover fatigue and distraction?

Aggregate haulers often work long days with repeated short trips, which builds fatigue, and work around loaders, pavers and people on foot, where a moment's distraction matters. The course covers strategies for fatigue, stress, impairment and distraction.

What is the competency evaluation form?

After passing, the learner is emailed a form the employer can use to evaluate practical skills on the actual equipment. Together, the certificate and the completed form make a fuller training record.
