Propane Handling & Exchange

Propane Handling and Exchange is an online course on the basics of handling propane cylinders and running a cylinder exchange safely. It covers safe handling, how to inspect a cylinder before it is accepted or handed over, and what to do when something goes wrong.

Duration

1h 15m

On completion

Certificate, valid 36 month(s)

Coverage

All Provinces

Per seat

$43.99 CAD

You set up a training profile before you pay. It asks for more than a normal checkout does - your employer, your role, an emergency contact - because this is a training record, not a shopping cart. It is the file an auditor asks to see, and it is why you can pull your certificate up years from now instead of hunting for a PDF in your email. Give yourself five minutes and do it once.

About the course

What this course covers.

Propane cylinder exchange looks simple: a customer brings in an empty cylinder and leaves with a full one. In practice the worker at the cage is the last check before a damaged, expired or leaking cylinder goes back into a vehicle or onto a job site. This course is built for that worker, and for anyone else whose job puts propane cylinders in their hands.

It covers the basics of safe handling: moving, carrying, storing and loading cylinders so they stay upright, secure and protected. It then teaches cylinder inspection, the step that matters most in an exchange program, so a worker can recognise a cylinder that should not be accepted or handed back out. The final part covers emergency situations, from a leak at the exchange cage to a fire, and the response that keeps the worker and the public safe.

On-Track Safety carries several propane courses. This one is the short, exchange-focused option, priced for retail and service businesses that need every staff member on the exchange trained, and for crews that handle cylinders on site but do not fill them.

Why it matters for compliance

Propane storage, handling and cylinder exchange are regulated under provincial safety codes and transportation of dangerous goods rules, and the details differ by province and by activity. This course provides awareness-level training for handling and exchange. It does not qualify a worker to fill cylinders; filling requires separate, recognised training.

Common questions

Questions buyers ask

Does this course qualify me to fill propane cylinders?

No. It covers handling, exchange and inspection. Filling cylinders requires separate training recognised in your province. On-Track Safety also carries a propane filling and handling awareness course.

Who should take a propane exchange course?

Anyone who accepts, hands out, stores or loads exchange cylinders: retail and service station staff, warehouse workers, and supervisors of an exchange program.

How much does the course cost?

The course is 43.99 CAD per seat. Ask our safety experts for 10 percent off your first course, or a free On-Track Safety corporate account for 20 percent off every course for three months.

How long is the certificate valid?

36 months from the completion date.

How is this different from Propane Handling and Exchange (the longer course)?

Both cover the same subject. This listing is the shorter, lower-priced option focused on handling, exchange, inspection and emergencies. Compare the duration and price and pick the one that fits your staff.

Can staff take it on a phone?

Yes. The course runs in a mobile browser and saves progress between sittings.

What makes a cylinder unsafe to exchange?

The course teaches staff to inspect each cylinder before it is accepted or handed out. Physical damage, corrosion, a damaged valve or collar, and other conditions covered in the course are reasons to refuse a cylinder and set it aside for proper handling.

What should staff do if a cylinder is leaking?

Follow the emergency procedure covered in the course and your workplace's emergency plan: keep people and ignition sources away, move to safety, and call for help. The course explains the response so staff are not deciding under pressure.
