About the course
What this course covers.
Asbestos was used for decades because it is durable and fire-resistant, and that durability is exactly the problem - disturb asbestos-containing material and it releases fibres that lodge in the lungs and cause disease that can take decades to appear. Any worker who might disturb asbestos needs to know what they are dealing with before they enter the worksite.
This course draws on decades of asbestos research to build a worker's understanding of what asbestos is, why it is so hazardous, and what it takes to stay safe around it. It covers the health effects associated with asbestos exposure, the legislation, controlling asbestos-containing material in buildings, asbestos abatement procedures, the personal protective equipment the work requires, asbestos sampling and analysis procedures, and other health and safety considerations. It is designed to exceed the legislation and guidelines set by Alberta OHS and the Alberta government.
Companies use the course to train workers before they are exposed to asbestos hazards and to give a documented training record an auditor or a contractor pre-qualification platform looks for.

We assign this before anyone goes near older building material. The health-effects section makes the seriousness land.
