About the course
What this course covers.
Smaller teams and heavier workloads mean people work more closely, and more intensely, with fewer colleagues than they used to. That makes conflict both more likely and more costly. Left alone, it slows work, drives good people away and, on a worksite, distracts people from the hazards in front of them. Handled well, it can surface real problems and lead to better decisions.
This course treats conflict management as a skill that can be learned. It begins with conflict resolution styles: the five broad ways people respond to conflict, each with its own strengths and costs. Most people default to one or two of them without realising it. Knowing all five lets a person recognise their own habit, read the approach the other person is taking, and choose deliberately.
The course then covers selecting the right style for the situation, because no single approach works every time, followed by collaboration guidelines for the conflicts that are worth working through together. The final section applies the material to workplace situations so the learner finishes ready to approach and resolve real conflict. It works for employees at any level, and pairs well with supervisor training for those who manage teams.

Why it matters for compliance
Conflict skills are not a legislated training topic on their own, but unresolved conflict can escalate into harassment or violence, which every Canadian jurisdiction requires employers to prevent. This course supports a respectful workplace; it does not replace harassment and violence prevention training or an employer's complaint process.
Common questions
Questions buyers ask
What are conflict resolution styles?
- Broad patterns in how people respond to conflict. The course covers five of them, how to recognise each, and when each one is the right or wrong choice.
Is this course for supervisors or employees?
- Both. Anyone who works with other people can use it. Supervisors who mediate between workers may also want Supervisor Skills, which covers resolving conflict between employees.
How much does the course cost?
- The course is 79.99 CAD per seat. Ask our safety experts for 10 percent off your first course, or a free On-Track Safety corporate account for 20 percent off every course for the first three months.
Does it replace harassment training?
- No. Conflict and harassment are different. If behaviour crosses into harassment, bullying or violence, the employer's harassment and violence prevention process applies. On-Track Safety carries separate harassment and violence prevention courses.
How long does it take?
- About 45 minutes.
Does the certificate expire?
- No expiry period is listed for this course.
Is avoiding conflict ever the right choice?
- Sometimes. The course explains that each style has situations where it works and situations where it makes things worse. Avoiding a trivial disagreement can be sensible; avoiding a safety concern or a recurring problem usually is not.
How does conflict affect safety?
- Conflict distracts people, slows communication and can stop workers from raising concerns with someone they are at odds with. Teams that handle conflict well communicate more openly, which supports hazard reporting and teamwork on the job.
