What this course covers.
Since 2023, most federally regulated commercial drivers in Canada have been required to run a certified electronic logging device rather than a paper logbook, and the shift changed what a driver actually needs to know: not just the duty limits themselves, but how an ELD records them and what still has to be logged by hand around it. A driver who only knows the old paper-log rules is working from an outdated picture of how their own hours are tracked.
The course works through duty status and work-shift limits, sleeper berth and team-driver rules, how an ELD records and reports driving and on-duty time, the exemptions that apply, and how to recognise and manage fatigue itself rather than only the paperwork around it.
Carriers use this course to bring a driver up to speed on the current ELD-based framework, to refresh drivers who learned the rules under the old paper-log system, and to give a carrier safety review or a contractor pre-qualification platform a documented training record.
