About the course
What this course covers.
A trip inspection is a core part of carrier safety, and a bus or van carries the extra weight of passengers depending on the driver getting it right. A defect found in the yard is a maintenance ticket; the same defect found on the road is an incident. This course trains a driver to find it in the yard.
The course covers the National Safety Code requirements behind trip inspections - Standard 13, the safety regulations, and the daily requirements - then works through major and minor defects and how to record them. It walks the full inspection: the in-cab inspection of seats, mirrors, gauges, and equipment; the exterior vehicle circle covering lights, fluids, belts, suspension, brakes, tires, and the exhaust system; the passenger compartment and emergency exits; and the brake response test. It finishes with paperwork retention and an overview of the seven CVSA inspection levels.
Companies use the course to train bus and van drivers and to give a documented training record that supports a National Safety Code program and a carrier safety submission.
